Well, that's a wrap. We've had our first frost here in our town and that means that soon the snow will fly. We've had a couple really nice days, and I thought we better get some use out of the grill before it gets too chilly! Said like a true Midwesterner, insert eyeroll here! I'm totally not down with the cold so I am soaking it in! These Mushroom and Swiss Burgers were so juicy, flavorful, cheesy, mushroomy - they were unreal! These were simple to make, and a total showstopper! Plus, I'm infatuated with mushrooms. Any chance I get to use them in a dish, I'm going to! Those buttery buns, sweet fried onion, everything just came together so well! The family loved them!
Add all burger ingredients to a large mixing bowl besides the oil for grilling and the swiss cheese and use your hands to combine. Don't overmix!
Form into 1-1/2-inch-thick patties, this recipe will make 4.
Gently push a little thumb indent in the middle of the patties (this helps it to cook evenly and stay flat.) Set aside on a plate until ready to use.
Preheat the oven to 425℉ and preheat the grill on medium-high for 5 minutes.
Brush the grill grates with 1 tbsp oil. Grill burgers for 4 minutes on one side, then flip.
Turn grill to medium heat and cook for 5 minutes more, adding cheese in the last minute. Burgers are done when they reach an internal temp of 140-165℉ depending on the doneness you like.
Move burger patties to a plate covered with foil to keep warm until ready to use.
To toast the buns:
Butter both sides of the buns and add them directly to the rack of the oven with the buttered side down.
Toast those for 3-5 minutes while we work on our mushroom onion mix!
To make the mushroom and onion mix:
In a large skillet on medium heat, melt butter.
Sauté mushrooms and onions with the steak seasoning for 4-6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat when veggies are tender!
To serve these Mushroom and Swiss Burgers:
Lay burger patties out on the toasty buns, add a generous heap of mushroom onion mix over them, add the top bun, and enjoy!
Notes
Tips:Flipping the burgers only once helps to keep them nice and juicy!
