Mushroom Swiss Sloppy Joes
These Mushroom Swiss Sloppy Joes have all the classic flavor we know and love from a sloppy and then paired with those juicy shrooms and the melty swiss cheese - it was the bomb dot com! This was also super easy to make for a busy weekday AND it was a one-pot! This was a cool new way to use ground beef, and it was everything you never expected from a sloppy joe!
Ingredients
For the Mushroom Swiss Sloppy Joe filling:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 yellow onion diced
- 1 green pepper diced
- 8 oz white mushrooms sliced
- 3 garlic cloves minced
- 8 slices swiss cheese
- ⅓ cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp oregano
- ½ tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp paprika
For serving:
- Hamburger buns
Instructions
To make the filling:
- In a large deep skillet, brown ground beef on medium heat, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Cook until no longer pink, 5-7 minutes.
- Drain beef and move to a plate covered with foil until ready to use.
- In the same skillet, melt butter on medium heat.
- Add onion, green pepper, and mushrooms, then stir to combine. Cook 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add garlic, cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
To make the Mushroom Swiss Sloppy Joes:
- Add the ground beef back into the skillet along with all other ingredients besides the buns and cheese.
- Stir until everything is thoroughly mixed and on medium heat, bring mixture to a simmer.
- Simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Next, evenly distribute the swiss cheese on the top of the mixture, turn heat to low, cover, and cook 2 minutes more.
- When cheese is melty, remove from heat and serve sloppy joes on hamburger buns of your choice! Enjoy!
