Oven S’mores Dip
This time of year, I just want all the fruity drinks, grilled meats, and fun summer staples like some melty s’mores! This Oven S’mores Dip was super easy to make and totally screamed summer. And since it was broiled instead of baked, it really didn’t heat up the house too much! The toasted marshmallow topping felt just like a crunchy, golden, charred marshmallow you’d pluck from a stick after roasting. The chocolate ganache felt fancy, but without all the extra fuss! Serve it with some graham crackers, animal crackers, or however else you feel like having it! You could totally make this in a skillet or over a fire too. So much nostalgia! Yum.

So, what’s the inside scoop on s’mores? Where did the idea even come from?
S’mores evolved slowly over time after marshmallow roasting becoming popular along the Jersey Shore in the 1800’s! Next, the Boy Scouts took a stab at marshmallow roasting, and by 1927, the very first written recipe for s’mores was published in Girl Scouts’ Guide, “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts.”
The OG recipe was actually called “Some More,” but later on the name was shortened to “s’mores!” How cool is that?
Did you know?
Broiling uses intense heat that toasts the items inside the oven through quick bursts. Unlike traditional baking, this helps keep the house cool because the entire oven doesn’t have to work overtime to maintain a high heat. Only the top portion of the oven is actually projecting any heat. Pretty neat, right?!
Broiling is also shockingly energy-efficient! It uses far less energy, and since the house isn’t heating up, the AC is also not getting overworked. Still, even if you do have to bake something on a hot day, it’s not the end of the world. Shoot for recipes with lower baking temps like 350 F. Having the oven at this temp for an hour or so, will likely only raise the temp in the kitchen 5-10 degrees.

What equipment do I need?
How do I make it?
To make the chocolate ganache:
To get started on this recipe, first pull out a small and shallow oven-safe baking dish. Give it a light spray with cooking spray, then spread the chocolate chips in an even layer on the bottom of the dish.

Next, in a small saucepan, heat cream and butter on medium low, stirring constantly with a rubber spatula, until butter has melted and the mixture begins to steam. Do not let it boil!
Pour the mixture over the chocolate chips until mostly submerged, not covering. Set aside for several minutes, undisturbed.
Pro Tip: By doing this, the steam is going to gently melt the chocolate chips right into the cream and butter. This stops everything from potentially burning, while also creating a rich and decadent chocolate layer!
Next, stir the mixture until smooth. Don’t worry if all of the chocolate chips haven’t completely melted. They will in the oven!
The ganache will be thick, but that’s okay – it’s going to be the base of our dip!

To make the oven s’mores dip:
Stir the espresso powder, salt, and vanilla into the chocolate ganache, then top with marshmallows lined in even rows. Think tater tot casserole style!

Next, broil on high for several minutes, until the marshmallows appear golden and gooey.
To serve:
Garnish oven s’mores dip with a pinch of flaky salt, then serve immediately with graham crackers broken into segments or animal crackers. Enjoy!

Tips:
- If you don’t have graham crackers or animal crackers, this dip is also surprisingly good with Ritz crackers! Pretzels would also be yummy for the sweet and salty combo!
- This dessert dip will keep for 3-4 days if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- To reheat this, just pop it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds at a time, stirring until it becomes melty again. It’s honestly super amazing cold too. It gives candy bar vibes!
