We are huge salad lovers in our house! This Cobb Salad was unbelievable! It was loaded with all the good stuff, and it was HUGE! After eating this, you feel full and satisfied, but not overstuffed! We completely devoured this, even our 9-month-old was loving it – of course we cut it up really small! This would make the perfect lunch or side dish to your pasta! You could bring this beautiful Cobb Salad to a potluck or picnic! It was absolutely delicious!

What’s the backstory on cobb salad?

The Cobb Salad was created in 1937 in Los Angeles! Robert Cobb, the owner of a restaurant called “Brown Derby,” threw a bunch of leftovers together after rummaging around in his kitchen and decided to call it “Cobb Salad!” He was running low on ingredients at the restaurant and so this salad was built by completely improvising! Pretty cool stuff, right?!

We are still enjoying this salad all around America to this day! While lots of restaurants have their own version of it, the salad tends to stick to its original ingredients for the most part!

Did you know?

The OG salad dressing to go along with Cobb Salad was actually NOT ranch! It was a red wine vinaigrette dressing made up of garlic, lemon, Dijon, and Worcestershire! Ranch didn’t become the new default until decades later!

What ingredients to I need?

Cooked Chicken, rotisserie or see my recipe for oven baked chicken breasts
Bacon
Romaine Lettuce
Hard Boiled Eggs
Tomato
Avocado
Red Onion

Optional garnishes:

Blue Cheese
Ranch Dressing, store-bought or check out my recipe
Croutons

How do I make it?

In a large serving bowl, assemble salad! Start with lettuce on the bottom, then layer all of your ingredients on top of the salad in an even line for a beautiful and enticing presentation!

Garnish with blue cheese, ranch dressing, and croutons, if desired! Enjoy!

Homemade ranch in a small glass jar with a spoonful of it in front of it and a big salad behind

Tips:

  • You could always skip the chicken and bacon in this recipe for a vegetarian friendly option!
  • If you’re wanting something a little more unique, check out my Avocado Blue Cheese Dressing instead of the ranch!
