Meatloaf

Meatloaf with a ketchup glaze on a wooden cutting board with a knife nearby

Last updated on December 28th, 2025

My family LOVES this dish, it’s a classic! It does take time to bake but this recipe is super easy and most importantly, it’s delicious! It’s like a big burger! I never understood how people don’t like it! This version is bursting with garlic and flavor! It’s juicy! It’s everything you could ever want out of a meatloaf!

So, what’s the deal with meatloaf and why do people either love it or hate it?

Did you know that meatloaf is like…really old? The very first meatloaf to appear was back in the 4th or 5th century! That’s SO OLD! Meatloaf existed 17 centuries before our time – that’s around 1700 years ago!

Meatloaf is great because it’s customizable, comforting, and affordable to make in a large loaf! Why it sometimes gets a bad rap is because people can have negative childhood memories surrounding “the dreaded meatloaf!” Whether it was “mom’s meatloaf” or the kindergarten cafeteria, they knew they wanted a PB&J instead! But meatloaf is DELICIOUS and it’s basically just like having a burger with ketchup! YUM!

What ingredients do I need for the meatloaf?

Ground Beef
Eggs
Milk
Breadcrumbs
Onion
Garlic
Italian Seasoning
Ketchup
Yellow Mustard
Worcestershire
Salt
Black Pepper

What ingredients do I need for the glaze?

Ketchup
Brown Sugar
Worcestershire
Black Pepper

How do I make it?

Preheat oven to 350 F. Add all meatloaf ingredients to a large bowl. Using your hands, mix to combine – but don’t overmix!

Add mixture to an ungreased 9×5 loaf pan. In a small bowl, whisk glaze ingredients until combined. Pour over meatloaf and spread evenly with a silicone brush.
Bake it! After 1 hour 10 minutes, remove and cover with tinfoil for the duration of the cook time.

Drain the grease from the top and make a gravy if you are making mashed potatoes! Or discard. Now let it rest and serve with your favorite sides! Mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, green beans!
