How do mustard and chicken go together?
Mustard is sharp and acidic which cuts through the richness of the chicken and the creamy sauce in this dish! The mustard is also almost wine-like, which really elevates all of these flavors together!
What do I need to make Creamy Mustard Chicken and Pasta?
Chicken Breasts
Rotini
Chicken Broth
Half and Half
Butter
Cream Cheese
Garlic
Olive Oil
Garlic Powder
Black Pepper
Salt
Ground Mustard
Italian Seasoning
Optional garnishes:
Fresh parsley
How do I make it?
Cook pasta according to package instructions. While that’s going, cut the fat off of the chicken, cut into tenders, and season on each side.
In a large skillet on medium, heat oil. When oil is shimmering, add chicken and cook, turning with a tong occasionally to get a nice brown crust on each side.
Remove chicken from the skillet and transfer to a plate covered with foil until ready to use.
In the same skillet, melt butter, then add garlic. Cook for a minute, until fragrant. Next add broth and half and half, then bring to a simmer. Add cream cheese and whisk until combined, then turn heat to low. Add the rest of the seasonings and give everything a good stir.
Place chicken back in skillet to warm, then serve over pasta with the creamy mustard sauce. Garnish Creamy Mustard Chicken and Pasta with parsley, if desired, and serve hot! Enjoy!
Tips:
- You can use any type of pasta you want in this recipe; it doesn’t really matter! If you use a longer pasta, make sure to use a bit less – this gives a proper ratio.
- To help cream this back up when reheating, just add a splash of milk or cream to it!
- If you don’t have ground mustard, you could add like a tablespoon of Dijon Mustard into the sauce when you add the cream cheese! This will bring depth and flavor!
