Avocado BLT Dip

Avocado blt dip in a bowl with some bagel crisps around it on a countertop

Last updated on February 17th, 2026

One of my favorite things to munch on is a tasty dip! My son just recently had a birthday, and he’s obsessed with avocado AND BLT’s. So, I wanted to surprise him with this little concoction to really blow his mind! This Avocado BLT Dip tasted JUST LIKE A BLT! But listen, there actually isn’t any lettuce in this. I just felt like it would get kind of weird and soggy, so in my mind green onion was the next best thing! It gave that crunch and tons of flavor, plus then I was able to incorporate it throughout! This dip was creamy, crunchy, and incredibly fresh! It was so bomb! A lil zesty, tangy – and it did totally blow my little guy’s mind!

When did cold dips become a thing?

Chilled dips evolved from ancient sauces and spreads that were popular hundreds of years ago! In the 20th century, dips featuring sour cream, cream cheese, and mayo really became popular in the U.S. thanks to the French introducing this concept! By 1960, cold dips were a party staple! Layered taco dips and spinach dips served in a bread bowl were often featured as a centerpiece at cocktail parties!

Today, cold dips are still evolving – usually appearing at potlucks and game day gatherings! And with the first BLT dip introduced around 1980, it has evolved SO much since then! The viral TikTok “Boat Dip” is another example of how modern-day cooks can turn the simplest ingredients into a showstopping appetizer!

Did you know?

The famous “double-dip” joke came from Seinfeld back in 1993, which turned cold dips into pop culture icons! This really got the people talking, sparking some serious party etiquette debates! Either way, dips will always be a favorite at parties, church lunches, and family reunions – regardless of the double-dip fear mongering!

What ingredients do I need to make this?

For the Avocado BLT Dip:

Avocado
Bacon
Mayo
Sour Cream
Tomato
Lime
Green Onion
Salt
Paprika
Black Pepper

For serving:

Garlic Bagel Crisps

What equipment do I need?

How do I make it?

To prep the ingredients:

The first thing you’ll want to do is cook the bacon until crispy and set aside on a paper towel lined plate to drain the excess grease. Once cooled enough, crumble it and set aside! Now let’s get started on prepping the veggies! Wash them up, then deseed and dice the tomato, thinly slice the green onion, juice the lime, and peel and pit the avocado.

Next, in a large mixing bowl, mash up the avocado with the lime juice until mostly creamy. I like a little bit of chunk because I’m a major avo fan, but you can mash it until it’s completely creamy if you want!

To make the Avocado BLT Dip:

Add the mayo, sour cream, seasonings, and stir to combine.

Add most of the tomato, green onion, and bacon to the bowl and stir until thoroughly mixed.

To serve:

Transfer Avocado BLT Dip to a serving bowl and garnish with remaining veggies and bacon!

Serve immediately with garlic bagel crisps! These will give the most BLT forward vibe, but you can use any other cracker or pretzel that you want! Some ripped up bagel would also be incredible! Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Serving immediately really gives that BLT vibe because you’ve got that bacon that’s kinda warm yet, combined with the chilly mayo, sour cream, and veggies! This also keeps the avocado at its freshest! For those reasons, I wouldn’t recommend making this dip too much ahead of time. At most, a few hours before a party is best!
  • This dip will keep for about 2 days if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The lime juice adds a vibrant pop and also keeps the BLT dip from browning due to the avocado oxidizing!
  • If you want to add lettuce to this, you totally can! Just add it right before serving and use it as a garnish! Otherwise, the lettuce may become brown and slimy if incorporated directly into the dip.
  • For a healthier version, consider using miracle whip in place of the mayo and Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream. This may affect that “BLT vibe” though!
