Where did guacamole come from?

It all started in Mexico, but guacamole has roots dating back to the Aztecs! The word guacamole literally means “avocado sauce!” The Aztecs would mash them with salt and other ingredients, long ago. They believed avocados were sacred! In the 16th century, conquistadors landed in Mexico, and there they stumbled upon these green treats and brought the idea back to Europe.

Today, guacamole is still popular around the world! There are so many ways to enjoy it! Eat it with chips, stuff it in a burrito – I mean the opportunity is endless! It’s the perfect side dish for any party or Mexican inspired meal!

Did you know?

Avocados are actually fruits! They’re also one of the few fruits that are packed with healthy fats like monosaturated fats, which are fantastic for your heart!

What ingredients do I need to make this?

Avocado
Lime
Cilantro
Garlic
Salsa
Onion
Salt
Pepper

How do I make it?

Peel and halve avocados, add to a large bowl. Add juice from one lime to avocados. Mash, leaving some chunks if desired. Add in cilantro, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and salsa.

Stir to combine. Chill for 30 minutes for the best flavor or eat immediately. Serve with tortilla chips, tacos, nachos, any way you like! Enjoy!

Tips for storing Guacamole:

Guacamole is best served fresh but can be stored for 1-2 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Be sure to keep fresh limes handy to squeeze in and stir as needed to keep the avocado from browning due to oxidation.
