Chinese Dumplings
Last updated on January 10th, 2026
We love making Asian recipes at home! These Chinese Dumplings were to die for! This was my first attempt at making a dumpling and it was absolutely sensational! It’s like a fried dumpling, potsticker FUSION! My husband and I raved about these all night! The flavor of these were unbelievable! It felt like we were out at an Asian restaurant or just hit up a trendy food truck! When you bite into that crispy, crunchy wonton wrapper – the juicy delicious filling bursts into your mouth – and it’s like fireworks! Since we made the wonton wrappers from scratch, this dish was a bit more technical and took more time, but it was a total labor of love!

How do I make the wonton wrappers?
In a medium sized bowl, whisk egg and water. In a separate large bowl, whisk all other wonton wrapper ingredients. Create a well in the middle for the egg mixture. Slowly pour the egg mixture into the well and using a rubber spatula, mix until a dough starts to form. I had better luck using my hands towards the end of this process.
Gently knead the dough, until you’ve got a nice dough ball that bounces back when poked. Place dough ball back into the bowl and cover with a damp cloth for an hour. While the dough is rising, prepare the meat filling.
How do I make the dumplings?
Add all filling ingredients into a large bowl and use your hands to mix until combined. Now cover and let marinate in the refrigerator until ready to use. You’re going to need a lot of countertop or prep space for this process! First, generously sift some flour out onto your work area.
Using a rolling pin, roll out dough ball until it is about 1/16th of an inch thick or about 1.5 mm. Using a pizza cutter, cut dough into squares that are 4 x 4 inches. Scoop a small amount of meat mixture into center of each square. Get a small dish of water handy and lightly brush a watered fingertip along the edges of the squares. Using your non dominant hand to hold the dumpling, start at the end and fold the dumpling together into a crescent shape, pinching the seams of the dough as you fold. Repeat this process until all dumplings are formed, we ended up with 30 dumplings.
How do I fry the dumplings?
In a large deep skillet, heat oil on medium-high until shimmering. Working in batches, fry dumplings for about a minute per side. Serve Chinese Dumplings with a side of soy sauce and garnish with green onion and sesame seeds, if desired! Enjoy!

Tips:
- Sautรฉ or steam these dumplings if you’d like instead!
- Add whatever veggies you want to the filling! Cabbage would also be nice! Whatever you add, just make sure to mince/chop it up small!
- If you don’t have time to make your own wonton wrappers, you can definitely just buy some! Although, making it yourself is a lot of what makes this dish so tasty and flavorful!

Although Iโve never made Asian dumplings, Iโve made pierogi which are similar, but a Polish variation, believed to have origins in Asia. The ones my Mom taught me to make were meatless, with a filling of mashed potatoes and cottage cheese. Your post has motivated me to make one about pierogi.
My grandma would always make Pierogi which comes from our Polish background! She would do just plain mashed potato ones, plain cabbage, and then a plain cheese one! So good! Iโve never made one! I love that Terry, thank you for sharing! That is the whole reason I do this, to hopefully inspire others to cook something from their heart! I love seeing your comments on my blog! Thank you for always taking the time to come and check out my recipes. It means everything to me! I hope to see them on your blog and if you decide to post, I canโt wait to check it out!๐ฉท
